Memphis is a great place to take a vacation

You're really in for a treat if you come to Memphis for
a vacation.

The downtown area has been going through a revitalization
that is unmatched in the region. Private investors have
spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 billion in
downtown.

When planning your trip to Memphis, be certain to visit
Beale Street, the Home of the Blues. You can go to a
variety of clubs on Beale Street including the Rum Boogie
Cafe, Pat O'Briens, Hard Rock Cafe - Memphis, Silky
O'Sullivans, BB King's and Elvis Presley's.

Arrive at Beale before 4:00pm and take a short walk to the
Gibson Guitar Factory that is just off Beale. You can take
a tour of the museum and watch guitars as they are being
made.

If you don't like clubs or Beale Street is not your thing,
you might like Peabody Place. Its a new shopping and
entertainment complex in the heart of downtown.
Everything is located in a single building so you don't
have to go outside once you get there. There are
restaurants, a movie theater, an arcade and a bowling alley
just to name a few. Take your children to Jillians and they
will have a ball, its an arcade with great games but is
higher end than Chuck E. Cheeses.

After you've visited Peabody Place, you really saunter over
to The Peabody Hotel to see the famous Peabody ducks that
swim in a fountain located in the lobby of the hotel.
Each morning and night, the duckmaster walks the ducks
through the motel to or from the fountain that makes the
Peabody famous.

One of the best things about downtown is the riverwalk. It
runs along the Mississippi River for a couple of miles and
gives you some great views of Old Man River. You'll walk
through some parks and along the River Bluff where you
might get a glimpse of a few celebrities such as Sybil
Sheppard, who owns a house on the South Bluff.

And don't forget to visit Mud Island at the north end of
downtown. You can recognize it by the monorail that takes
people over to the island. You can learn about the
Mississippi River while you on Mud Island by walking along
a scale model of the river as it runs from its origin
in Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.

Mud Island has a museum and and a scale replica of the
Mississippi river. You can walk along the river to see how
it changes directions and has changed routes over the last
couple hundred years. Finally you'll see where it dumps
into the Gulf of Mexico. You can even swim in the Gulf of
Mexico during the summer months because it is a working
swimming pool.

If you spend a week in the Memphis area, you will be able
to enjoy everything Memphis has to offer and not be in a
hurry. Oh, yeah, don't forget to visit the world class zoo,
along with the Pandas. Its a short drive from downtown.
