DVD Quality Lot Better Than Video
by Gareth Thompkinson

With technology progressing at its current rate the world
of home entertainment is a totally different animal to ten
years ago. It's now possible to produce professional
looking recordings from home with the right equipment and a
little knowledge. There are just so many things that you
can try. But first,

1~The first thing you must do is to transfer all the video
tapes that you want to save to DVD. This will save
everything for a minimum of thirty years, but many
manufacturers are claiming that DVDs will last for up to
one hundred years. You must make sure that you use the
right kind of DVD; ones that can be bought are:
a.~A rewritable DVD (DVD RW). This will let you re-record
over and over again.
b.~'Once only' DVD this will keep your precious memories
safe as once it has been recorded no-one can ever record
anything over the top.
c.~A double layer DVD has substantially more space and can
store up to eight hours of pictures.

2~It's simple to edit out the bits that you really don't
like for one reason or another. It can be a huge blunder
like leaving the video recording the floor or ceiling or
simply that you want to cut a few frames of yourself
pulling a most peculiar face! It's all a simple operation
now.

3~It's not just the pictures you can edit but you can also
add your own music which can be faded in and out and you
can also produce a voice over to remind yourself of some of
the funny things that might have happened.

4~You can also write over the pictures. This means that
you can add your own opening and closing credits or even
add comments on the screen in order to create a complete
'programme'.

5~You can create your own slideshow with music and photos
which makes a far superior way of showing your holiday
photos, or it makes a wonderful and unique present for a
loved one.

6~Not only can you buy professional cases for your DVD but
you can either buy stick on labels or even a relatively
cheap printer that will print directly onto the DVD. This
can be achieved in such a professional manner that very few
people would be able to tell the difference between a mass
produced item and one created on a home computer.

People in the video industry are disturbed that such
specialist work can be achieved from a lap top computer
whilst watching the TV. Every part of a professional DVD is
available to everyone and gives us all the chance to show
our holiday snaps off in a far more entertaining manner
than we could a few years ago.
